A conversation with my teenage self

I dislike teenagers. This is, I’m sure, incredibly unfair of me. It’s not their fault that their reasoning and awareness of others has been mangled by hormones, and there are a few who do a good approximation of human beings despite such disadvantages. But I’m not angry at teenagers really. No, the reason I would pick up most teenagers I meet by their collars and shake them (if I were not afraid of being arrested or stabbed), is that their time-wasting and ignorance of the life that lies ahead reminds me of my own teenage self. Time to get serious. Again.

The launch of Getmewriting.com represented my first real attempt at taking this writing thing seriously. Despite years of study and occasional dabblings, this was the first time I decided that I couldn’t live without this, and I was going to have to make it happen for myself.

I needed a plan, and one of my own devising. Stage one was to generate some material, or even more basic than that, get into some kind of writing routine. Gather some of the tools to generate some material in other words.
